Doubting your decision???
Consistently contemplating our choices can make us feel inadequate and incompetent. Self-doubt is debilitating and often leads to depression and low self-esteem. This behavior often comes as a result of our family of origin (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.) and how they saw us and/or from our own perfectionistic propensities or pessimistic ways. Being too demanding on ourselves and second guessing our thoughts can steal our joy and create a need for approval from others. Self-doubt or lack of confidence can also lead to self-sabotage. Sabotage in dictionary description is harm, damage, or disruption.
Self-sabotaging behaviors in a simply manner is “self-harm” or “self-damaging” things we do to ourselves. We don’t intentionally want to harm ourselves however when we consistently compare, judge, or censor our decisions this is exactly what we’re doing. We constantly have internal conversation with ourselves in which we replay situations and wish we could have another opportunity to do things “differently.” Self-sabotage begins with negative thoughts. Learn to be aware of your thoughts and feelings in “the moment” ; accepting our limitations and learning to takes risks can lead to freeing and invigorating situations. Loving and accepting ourselves with our limitations will help us go “outside” the box making decisions which will lead us to live a happier life. I recommend being “intentional” about your thoughts; interrupt negative thinking and replace it with new thoughts as God’s Word says….
Romans 12:2 (AMP)
And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. With God’s help, we can take control of our thoughts and unlike the culture around us that can drag us down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of us and develops well-formed maturity in us. We don’t have to play it “safe” instead we can discover how strong and resilient we are in the Lord. Live to God’s full potential and not a life of mediocrity. When we don’t question or criticize ourselves then we can use skills like risk-taking, renewing our minds, positive self-talk and optimistic thinking to build ourselves instead of self-harming ourselves.
